Are You Satisfied?

1 Timothy 6:5 … men of depraved mind and deprived of the truth, who suppose that godliness is a means of gain.
6 But godliness actually is a means of great gain when accompanied by contentment.

How often do we deprive the gospel of producing in our hearts and lives that satisfaction that only the life of God in the heart of the believer can produce? We easily believe the lie that if we live “right” and keep all the “rules,” then God will give us a life of “gain” or satisfaction.

It’s easy to believe the lie that the gospel “gives” something instead of the truth that the gospel “is” Someone! The satisfaction that is for the believer only becomes a reality when right behavior is found with “contentment,” and that word in the Greek actually means “self-satisfaction.” Please don’t misunderstand me. I’m not saying self-produced satisfaction. What I’m talking about is the product of the activity of Christ Himself in the yielded believer, which means “self-satisfaction with Jesus” –

Philippians 4:11: “Not that I speak from want, for I have learned to be content in whatever circumstances I am.”
12 “I know how to get along with humble means, and I also know how to live in prosperity; in any and every circumstance I have learned the secret of being filled and going hungry, both of having abundance and suffering need.”
13 “I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.”

Only the satisfaction found in Christ can bring true gain or true self-satisfaction.
