Starting Your Day with Intention
Busy mornings have a way of convincing us to skip the little things. You roll out of bed, glance at the clock, and suddenly skincare feels optional, something you’ll “get back to later.” But a morning skincare routine doesn’t need to be complicated or time-consuming to be effective.
In fact, the most effective skincare routine is often the simplest one: a few intentional steps that support your skin’s needs without overwhelming your schedule or your skin barrier. This routine is designed for real life. It’s gentle, nourishing, and easy to maintain, even on busy mornings. A few well-chosen products with the right active ingredients can do more than a long routine that overwhelms your skin.
Understanding Your Skin’s Morning Needs
Your skin’s needs in the morning are very different from those in the evening. Overnight, your skin works to repair and restore itself. Morning skincare is about refreshing, hydrating, and supporting balance, not deep cleansing or heavy treatments. Think of your morning routine as support and protection, while your nighttime skincare routine is where cleansing and deeper recovery usually happen.
This is why we often remind customers that most people do not need to oil cleanse twice a day. Oil cleansing is most beneficial in the evening, when you’re removing makeup, dirt, and daily buildup.
In the morning, your skin usually just needs to be refreshed.
No matter your skin type, dry skin, oily skin, sensitive skin, acne-prone skin, or combination skin, your routine should feel supportive and simple. Skincare should work with your skin’s needs, not against them.
The Essential Steps of a Morning Skincare Routine
We’re often asked: What should I do for morning skincare if I oil cleanse at night?
Here’s exactly what we recommend.
-
Dry Face Brushing (Optional)
Begin with a completely dry face. I like to do this right after waking up.
-
Start at the jawline and sweep upward toward the ear
→ Repeat 3–5 times in one area before moving upward along the cheek. -
Begin between the brows and sweep upward to the hairline
→ Work across the forehead, 3–5 strokes in each spot. -
Once you’ve finished one side, start at the center of the forehead and sweep downward to the jawline
→ Do this 3–5 times to encourage lymph movement, then repeat on the other side.
This step gently stimulates circulation and helps wake up the skin without exfoliating or disrupting the skin barrier. Get our favorite dry skin brush here.
-
Warm Water Refresh (No Cleanser Needed)
For most people, morning does not require an oil-based cleanser. Save this for nighttime. If you do cleanse, choose a gentle cleanser
Simply splash your face with warm water or use a soft washcloth to gently refresh the skin. This removes any overnight residue while preserving your skin’s natural oils, which help maintain healthy hydration levels.
Skipping cleanser in the morning can be especially helpful for dry skin, sensitive skin, and combination skin. It can also help prevent imbalance.
-
Hydrate
Hydration is one of the most important steps in any morning skincare routine, no matter your skin type, including oily skin and acne-prone skin.
Spritz your skin generously with an A’del Hydrating Spray. Ingredients like aloe, glycerin, and botanical extracts help draw moisture into the skin and support a strong skin barrier.
Hydrated skin absorbs moisturizer more effectively and helps maintain an even, healthy skin tone.

Moisturize + Support
After hydrating, apply your favorite A’del moisturizer to seal in moisture and support your skin throughout the day.
Natural moisturizers rich in fatty acids and vitamin E help maintain softness, balance oil production, and support radiant skin without feeling heavy or greasy when applied correctly. Always apply moisturizer after spraying Hydrate so your skin can really absorb the oils.
Our Most Loved Moisturizers
Each of our moisturizers is thoughtfully formulated to simplify your routine while deeply supporting your skin’s unique needs.

Essential Moisturize
Best for normal to dry or aging skin, Essential Moisturize is a true all-in-one. This long-time customer favorite delivers lasting hydration, softness, and daily support in one easy step.
Blue Lagoon Face Balm
Made for oily or sensitive skin and suitable for all ages, Blue Lagoon Face Balm helps soothe redness, heat, rosacea, and acne. It’s infused with Blue Tansy Essential Oil, which is known for its calming, anti-inflammatory properties. This balm hydrates while easing irritation and supporting recovery. Use it in place of your daily moisturizer, night cream, or eye cream, morning or night.
Duo Balm
Duo Balm is a multitasking staple packed with nutrient-rich oils and butters. This facial stick delivers deep moisture, supports healing, and offers soothing anti-inflammatory benefits, plus antioxidant vitamins A, E, and D. Dry skin feels hydrated and plump, while oily skin feels more balanced. Since it’s water-free, it stays stable without synthetic preservatives. Use it as a daily moisturizer, a smoothing foundation primer, or a nourishing lip balm. One stick, lots of uses.
I love to finish with our Lip Conditioner, rich in hyaluronic acid, for all-day healing benefits to my lips.
Avoid applying moisturizer around or directly on the eyes if you’ll be wearing makeup.
If you plan to use A’del’s Moisturizing Foundation, most can skip this step altogether.

You may have noticed that there is no mention of SPF in the above steps. If you want to know why, head over to this blog post and this one to hear our thoughts on the sun and SPF.

Tips for Every Skin Type
And if you’re working through specific skin concerns, the goal is still the same: keep it consistent and supportive.
-
Dry skin: Don’t skip hydration. It helps maintain comfort and softness.
-
Oily or acne-prone skin: Proper oil hydration actually helps regulate oil production.
-
Sensitive skin: Fewer steps and clean ingredients help keep skin calm.
-
Combination skin: Adjust moisturizer amounts by area as needed.
Your skincare routine should feel flexible, not rigid.
Keep It Simple
Skincare doesn’t need to be complicated to be effective. A simple morning routine focused on hydration and support helps maintain healthy skin, even on the busiest mornings.
When you choose clean, thoughtful skincare products, you support your skin’s natural balance instead of working against it.
