The Beginner’s Guide to Oil Cleansing: Navigating the Purge and Discovering the Benefits of This Amazing Skincare Ritual

Oil cleansing is an ancient, luxurious and therapeutic method for skin care that offers incredible benefits, when used correctly!

Here's how to use our sets:

Gently massage the cleanser into your skin for 1-2 minutes to dissolve makeup and daily grime. The warm washcloth step is crucial—steam your face for at least 1 minute to open pores and release toxins. Once the cloth cools, use it to wipe everything away. If any oil or makeup remains, repeat the warm cloth step until your face feels clean. This should be a relaxing ritual with aromatherapy benefits from the essential oils. For any residual makeup or oils, continue gently wiping with a warm, wet cloth—I recommend using a Norwex cloth for optimal results. Afterward, spray hydrate all over and immediately massage the moisturizer or blue lagoon face balm into your skin. This hydrating step prepares your skin to absorb the rich oils found in the face moisturizer/face balm, don't skip it. The entire process takes about 4-5 minutes and is a wonderful way to end your day!

We recommend using the full set once daily, typically at night. In the morning, we suggest starting with dry skin brushing the face. Facial dry brushing offers a myriad of beauty benefits, such as boosting circulation, enhancing skin smoothness and exfoliation, promoting detoxification via lymphatic drainage, and improving overall skin appearance. Then, gently cleanse your face with a soft cloth and warm water (we recommend a Norwex face cloth). Follow with hydrate and moisturize or face balm before applying makeup or using it as a standalone routine. You can skip the cleansing step in the morning.

PURGE:

If this is your first time using an oil cleansing system, it is very common to experience a purge. The skin regenerates itself every 28 days and this is often how long it takes to balance out with a new oil cleanse system (it can take up to 45 days). A purge in the form of uncommon breakouts, excessively dry or oily skin is very common as the skin releases toxins and balances out! I know this can be a challenging time getting through the purge, but letting the skin release these toxins is actually a good thing! This is a sign that your body was holding on to toxins that it is now ready to get rid of, which is so important for our overall health. Seeing skin that is even better than it was before is just around the corner!

My best advice to aid your skin during this time:

Follow the instructions listed above.

Only cleanse once every other day, gradually working your way up to every day. Use a gentle cloth and warm water to wash your face the days you do not cleanse, I recommend a norwex cloth. Adding the rose mask two times a week can also be VERY beneficial during this time, as well as dry skin brushing the face in the morning.
